Who is Getting All of this Money?
We spend four and a half trillion dollars on the cost of health care in our country. It’s $13,493 per person in our country. So it’s a significant amount of money even when you look at it in perspective of everything else that we spend money on. And I want to talk about where do we spend it. Who gets that money? That’s 4.5 trillion dollars. Hospitals are the number one receiver of that care or those dollars at 1.3 trillion dollars. Our physicians and our clinicians in this country get 885 billion of that 4. 5 trillion. And our prescription drugs cost 400 billion of that 3.5 trillion. So those would be the three largest receivers of our healthcare dollars every year. Hospitals, physicians, and our pharmacy benefits, our pharmacy costs.
