The Impact of Rising Costs
The average cost of a single premium right now in this country is $8,400. That’s up 7% from last year. Five years ago, the average cost was $6,890. So from five years to today, it’s gone up 22%. If you go back 10 years ago, it was $5,800. That’s a 44% increase in 10 years. I have data that goes all the way back to 1999 where a single, a single plan costs $2,196. It’s a 284% increase in the cost of healthcare since 1999 until today. And it’s something going forward that’s just not sustainable.
