What’s the Impact on Consumers?
If you look at the expenditure of Americans out of pocket at $470 billion and you think about that number and how large it is, this is people paying for their deductibles, for their coinsurance, for their copays, for their prescriptions, people without insurance who need to go see a doctor or who have to go into a hospital, people who are maybe having elective surgeries that maybe aren’t medically necessary and covered, putting out of pocket and as time goes on, especially in the last couple of years with inflation, right? We’ve had a cost increase in our housing and our food and our deductibles have gone up and our copays have gone up. It’s a difficult thing for people to come up with the money. And sometimes people will go without care because they don’t have those dollars to spend.
