Employer Sponsored Health Coverage & The IRS

Hi, this is Connie Chiara with Corporate Benefit Partners. Let’s talk for a minute about healthcare reform and employee benefit claim compliance. Healthcare reform requires that employers report information to the IRS and to full-time employees regarding their employer-sponsored coverage. The IRS uses this information to verify that employers offer health insurance coverage in accordance with the Health Care Reform Law.

These IRS returns must be filed electronically by March 31st for the preceding calendar year, and there are two types of filing, a 6056, which reports general information about the employer and their plans, and form 6055, which is the one that’s required by law, which reports coverage provided to each individual employee.

Which forms you’re required to file depends on the size of your company and the type of funding arrangement you have for your health insurance plans. Have any questions about these IRS forms? Call me. Let’s talk benefits.
